Update: We’re excited to share that SB 233 or The Georgia Promise Scholarship has moved out of the Georgia State Senate and is now heading to the Governor’s Desk.
On March 14th, the Georgia House of Representatives passed a bill that established the first ESA in the Peach State, the Georgia Promise Scholarship. This action is the culmination of more than 10 years of relentless advocacy by GeorgiaCAN and its partners.
SB 233 now returns to the Senate, which passed the legislation last year, for their agreement. Once agreed to the bill will be sent to Governor Kemp, who has already voiced his strong support for the measure.
The legislation will establish an ESA accessible to students in low-performing schools. If fully funded, the Promise Scholarship Act will provide tens of thousands of children and families an immediate option to find the education that’s right for them.
