When’s the expo?

The expo will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where is the expo?

The expo will take place at Georgia State University. The address is 55 Gilmer St.,
Atlanta, GA, 30303. The event will take place in the Student Center East. It will be on the first floor in the House and Court Salon. It’s rooms 110A and 110B

 

Once Inside the Expo

 

Is there parking?

Yes! There will be FREE on-site parking; all parking will take place in G-Deck.Please note there’s a lot of interest in the event. We encourage attendees to use MARTA or ridesharing apps like UBER or LYFT.

There is on-street parking as well.

Directions to G-Deck Parking on the Weekends

From the North:

Take I-75/85 south into downtown Atlanta. Exit at Martin Luther King Dr. (Exit 248A- State Capitol, Turner Field) and continue to the second light. Turn right on Piedmont Avenue. After traveling under the MARTA station, the Sports Arena will be on your left. At the next traffic light, turn left onto Decatur Street. Go one block until you reach the first traffic light, Collins Street. For parking, turn left onto Collins Street; the entrance to G-Deck will be on your right.

From the South:

Take I-75/85 north toward downtown Atlanta. Exit at Central Ave. (Exit 246). After passing Underground Atlanta, continue through the intersection of Central Avenue and Decatur Street. Turn right onto Decatur Street. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Collins Street. The entrance to G-Deck will be on your right.

From the East:

Take I-20 east toward downtown Atlanta. Exit at Capitol Avenue (Exit 58A). Turn right onto Capitol Avenue. Just past the Capitol Building, Capitol Avenue becomes Piedmont Avenue. Go under the MARTA overpass, and turn left onto Decatur Street. Go one block and turn left onto Collins Street. The entrance to G-Deck will be on the right.

From the West:

Take I-20 west toward downtown Atlanta. Exit at Spring St. (Exit 56B), and turn left. Continue until you reach Marietta Street. Turn right onto Marietta Street. After crossing over Peachtree Street, Marrietta Street becomes Decatur Street. Continue past Central Avenue, then turn right onto Collins Street. The entrance to G-Deck will be on the right.

How do I get from G-Deck to the Atlanta School Choice Expo?

Upon exiting the parking deck, walk north on Collins Street a block and a half to Student Center East. As Collins Street is underneath the Courtland Street bridge, it will appear as if the street deadends north of Decatur Street. However, as you pass Student Center West, the sidewalk will continue up and curve slightly to the right. The building directly in front of you as you come up is Student Center East.

MARTA:

On the east-west line, exit at Georgia State Station. Exit the station onto Piedmont Avenue, and walk north. Student Center East will be at the southwest corner of Piedmont and Gilmer Street.
From the north-south line, transfer to the east-west line at Five Points station and go east one stop to the Georgia State station.

Is this event kid-friendly?

Yes! We will have a photo booth, face painting, and much more. These activities are FREE.

How long should I expect to be at the expo?

This expo is self-guided, so you can take as long as possible until the expo ends at 1 p.m. We just ask that you are mindful of others!

Does this event cost anything?

No. It’s FREE!

What schools will be there?

More than 40 schools have RSVP’d to attend. Each school represents a different attendance zone and we’ll note the district(s) they serve at their booths. We will also provide this information on a map. See list of schools attending.

What types of schools will be at the expo?

We will have traditional public schools, public charter schools, private schools, and a few local district representatives. See list of schools attending.

What districts are invited?

We’ve invited schools serving the following districts:
Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton County Public Schools, Cobb County Public Schools, DeKalb County Public Schools, Douglas County Public Schools, Fulton County Public Schools, Henry County Public Schools, and Gwinnett County Public Schools. There will also be charters that have a statewide attendance zone.

As stated earlier, every school has a different attendance zone, so please be aware that only some schools serve these districts.

When are applications due?

Each school has a different enrollment period. Please be sure to ask the school during the expo—they’re attending to answer your questions!
