GeorgiaCAN is proud to support National School Choice Week; we’ve always believed children in our state should have access to a learning environment that works for them. That’s why we wanted to provide a few resources for families looking for something different in their district and throughout the state.

Public School Transfer or Choice.

You should be able to check out your current zoned district’s local school choice programs. Most schools currently have an application process. The best way to learn or hear about these programs is via your local district website.

Local and State Public Charter Schools.

Are you looking for a public charter school? Check out Findagacharter.org. This website provides a searchable map of the current charters in our state and answers any questions about charters you may have.

Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program (SB 10)

Does your child have an IEP or 504? They may qualify for a scholarship to attend a Georgia-approved private school. GeorgiaCAN has put together a resource document on the program; check it out here. We’re also hosting a webinar on the program on Tuesday, February 7 2023, at 7 pm.

Georgia Tax Credit Scholarship

Georgia currently has a scholarship program for families. This program allows an eligible student to receive a scholarship to attend a private school. Families receive these scholarships via a Student Scholarship Organization. You’ll be able to learn more about the program here.

Here are a few other resources and events to check out:

National School Choice Week
Georgia Homeschool Association
Find a Microschool
2023 Black Homeschool Conference
Conoce Tus Opciones Escolares (school choice resource for Spanish-speaking families)
Supporting the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship
Georgia Center for Opportunity

Finally, if you’re in the Metro Atlanta area, check out the 2023 Atlanta School Choice Expo. The expo will be at Georgia State University on Saturday, January 28th, from 10 am to 1 pm. You can learn more here.

Do you want to see more school choices? The legislative session just started! Please take a second to welcome back your lawmaker and ask them to expand the school choice options here.
