Summer has started! With a few weeks under our belts, we thought it would be great to share our annual summer reads list. Over the past couple of months, GeorgiaCAN surveyed teachers from across the state. We wanted to get their recommendations for good summer reads and where to purchase them (just click the book title or the author.) Here’s the list: 

Pre-Kindergarten:

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by  Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault

Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister

Also, make sure to check out anything from Dr. Seuss.

Kindergarten:

My Kicks: A Sneaker Story! by Susan Verde

How Much Does A Ladybug Weigh? by Alison Limentani

Any books in the Junie B. Jones series.

1st Grade:

Before She Was Harriett by Lesa Cline-Ransome

Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel

A common author suggested for 1st graders was Robert T. Higgins.

2nd Grade:

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henke

Any books from the Magic Tree House series.

3rd Grade:

The Very Last Castle by Travis Jonker

Charlotte’s Web by E.B White

Check out How to Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell. One teacher suggested reading the series and then having a movie night!

4th Grade:

Surviving Brick Johnson by Laurie Myers

The Borrowers by Mary Norton

Have them check out an “old school” spooky book series like Goosebumps by E.L. Stine.

5th Grade:

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt

Check out the Wayside School series by Louis Sachar

6th Grade:

Hoot by: Carl Hiaasen

One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia

Artemis Fowl is a great series to check out. The series is by Eoin Colfer.

7th Grade:

The Giver by Lois Lowry

Nimona by: Noelle Stevenson

The Maze Runner by James Dashner series is something you should check out.

8th Grade:

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

The Divergent Series by Veronica Roth is a great read for 8th graders.

High School:

Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline Harrison

Tunnel Vision by Susan Adrian

1984 by George Orwell

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
